How to Change Narration
(কিভাবে Narration পরিবর্তন করবেন)
Breakdown 1: Future Tense (will/shall)
If the reporting verb is in the past, “will” changes to “would” and “shall” typically changes to “should” or “would”.
Direct Speech
He said, “I will help you.”
↓
Rule 1: Conjunction
Add “that”.
Rule 2: Pronoun Change
“I” becomes “he”, “you” becomes “me”.
Rule 3: Verb Change
“will” becomes “would”.
↓
Indirect Speech
He said that he would help me.
Breakdown 2: Modal Verbs (can, may, must)
“Can” changes to “could”, “may” changes to “might”, and “must” often changes to “had to”. Modals like “could”, “should”, “would”, “might” do not change.
Direct Speech
She said, “I can swim.”
↓
Rule 1: Conjunction
Add “that”.
Rule 2: Pronoun Change
“I” becomes “she”.
Rule 3: Verb Change
“can” becomes “could”.

She said that she could swim.
