How to Change Narration
(কিভাবে Narration পরিবর্তন করবেন)
Breakdown 1: Present Continuous → Past Continuous
If the reporting verb is in the past, the Present Continuous Tense (“am/is/are + V-ing”) changes to the Past Continuous Tense (“was/were + V-ing”).
Direct Speech
He said, “I am playing.”
↓
Rule 1: Conjunction
Add “that”.
Rule 2: Pronoun Change
“I” becomes “he”.
Rule 3: Tense Change
“am playing” becomes “was playing”.
↓
Indirect Speech
He said that he was playing.
Breakdown 2: Past Continuous → Past Perfect Continuous
If the reporting verb is in the past, the Past Continuous Tense (“was/were + V-ing”) changes to the Past Perfect Continuous Tense (“had been + V-ing”).
Direct Speech
She said, “I was working.”
↓
Rule 1: Conjunction
Add “that”.
Rule 2: Pronoun Change
“I” becomes “she”.
Rule 3: Tense Change
“was working” becomes “had been working”.
↓
Indirect Speech
She said that she had been working.
