Learning: “b” /b/ vs. “v” /v/
This is a common challenge. ‘b’ uses both lips, while ‘v’ uses your teeth and bottom lip.
- /b/ (as in ‘boat’): Your lips press together firmly and release the sound. It’s voiced. Examples: “boat”, “berry”, “ban”, “lab“.
- /v/ (as in ‘vote’): Your top teeth gently touch your bottom lip. Air flows through with vibration (voiced). Examples: “vote”, “very”, “van”, “have”.
