গল্পের সারসংক্ষেপ (Story Summary)
সুবল ও মাদল নামে দুই ভাই সুন্দরবনের একটি গ্রামে থাকত। একদিন তারা জ্বালানির জন্য শুকনো ডাল সংগ্রহ করতে তাদের নৌকায় করে মাতলা নদী দিয়ে গভীর জঙ্গলের দিকে যাচ্ছিল। এটি ছিল সুবলের প্রথমবার গভীর জঙ্গলে যাওয়া, তাই সে খুব উত্তেজিত ছিল।
নদীতে যাওয়ার সময় বড় ভাই মাদল, যার অনেক অভিজ্ঞতা ছিল, সে সুবলকে বাঘ, সাপ এবং কুমিরের মতো বন্যপ্রাণী সম্পর্কে সতর্ক করে। সে বলে যে সুন্দরবনে মানুষ ও পশুরা একসাথে বাস করে এবং পশুরা তাদের শত্রু নয়। হঠাৎ, তারা জঙ্গলের ভেতর থেকে এক оглушительный (deafening) গর্জন শুনতে পায়। একটি বিশাল বাঘ তাদের সামনে এসে দাঁড়ায়। ভয়ে দুই ভাই মূর্তির মতো দাঁড়িয়ে থাকে। মাদলের পরামর্শে তারা বাঘটিকে চ্যালেঞ্জ না করে শান্ত থাকে। বাঘটি কিছুক্ষণ তাদের দিকে তাকিয়ে থেকে ধীরে ধীরে চলে যায়। অবশেষে স্বস্তি পেয়ে তারা শুকনো কাঠ সংগ্রহ করে বাড়ি ফিরে যায়।

Subol: That was the scariest moment of my life! I really thought Barre Miya was going to attack us.
Madol: I was scared too, little brother. But in the forest, you must keep calm. The tiger could sense our fear, but because we didn't challenge him, he saw us as no threat.
Subol: You were right. You said animals are not our enemies. He just looked at us and walked away. It was amazing!
Madol: Exactly. We must respect their home, and they will respect us. This is the law of the Sunderbans. We live together.
