Unit – I: Transportation on Wheels

I am Mirik Roy. I am a student of Class III. I live in a small village. I ride the cycle-van to school everyday. This van is blue in colour. A van has three wheels. My father has a green bicycle. It has two wheels. Last year, my father taught me to ride the bicycle. It was great fun.

আমি মিরিক রায়। আমি তৃতীয় শ্রেণীর ছাত্র। আমি একটি ছোট গ্রামে থাকি। আমি প্রতিদিন সাইকেল-ভ্যানে করে স্কুলে যাই। এই ভ্যানটি নীল রঙের। একটি ভ্যানের তিনটি চাকা আছে। আমার বাবার একটি সবুজ সাইকেল আছে। এর দুটি চাকা আছে। গত বছর, আমার বাবা আমাকে সাইকেল চালানো শিখিয়েছিলেন। এটা খুব মজার ছিল।

I enjoyed a visit to Kolkata, too. The trip was during the summer vacation. My parents took me there. From our home, we took an auto-rickshaw to the bus stand. The auto-rickshaw was yellow in colour. A big red and white bus took us to the railway station. In the city, I saw a train-like thing with two compartments moving on rails. My father told me it was not a train but a tram. It was blue and white in colour. It also moved on wheels.

আমি কলকাতাতেও একটি ভ্রমণ উপভোগ করেছি। ভ্রমণটি গ্রীষ্মের ছুটিতে ছিল। আমার বাবা-মা আমাকে সেখানে নিয়ে গিয়েছিলেন। আমাদের বাড়ি থেকে, আমরা বাসস্ট্যান্ডে যাওয়ার জন্য একটি অটো-রিকশা নিয়েছিলাম। অটো-রিকশাটি হলুদ রঙের ছিল। একটি বড় লাল এবং সাদা বাস আমাদের রেলওয়ে স্টেশনে নিয়ে গেল। শহরে, আমি দুটি বগি সহ একটি ট্রেনের মতো জিনিস দেখলাম যা রেলের উপর দিয়ে চলছিল। আমার বাবা আমাকে বললেন এটি ট্রেন নয়, একটি ট্রাম। এটি নীল এবং সাদা রঙের ছিল। এটিও চাকার উপর চলত।

Unit – II: Transportation on Water

Bunny was a rabbit. His burrow was beside a pond. His best friend was Punny. Punny was a fish. She lived in the pond. Every afternoon, Bunny used to swim close to the bank. Bunny sat on the bank. The two of them talked till evening. One afternoon Punny said, “Tomorrow is my birthday. You must come.”

বানি একটি খরগোশ ছিল। তার গর্তটি একটি পুকুরের পাশে ছিল। তার সেরা বন্ধু ছিল পুনি। পুনি একটি মাছ ছিল। সে পুকুরে বাস করত। প্রতিদিন বিকেলে, বানি পাড়ের কাছে সাঁতার কাটত। বানি পাড়ে বসত। তারা দুজন সন্ধ্যা পর্যন্ত কথা বলত। একদিন বিকেলে পুনি বলল, “কাল আমার জন্মদিন। তোমাকে আসতেই হবে।”

Bunny said, “I cannot come. I cannot swim like you.” He was sad. Punny told him, “Don’t be sad, Bunny. Take a boat, and come.” Next afternoon, Bunny took a boat to the middle of the pond. The boat was made of wood. It had a hull. The hull helped the boat to float. The hull was built around a long beam called a keel. The keel helped the boat to keep its direction.

বানি বলল, “আমি আসতে পারব না। আমি তোমার মতো সাঁতার কাটতে পারি না।” সে দুঃখী ছিল। পুনি তাকে বলল, “দুঃখ করো না, বানি। একটি নৌকা নিয়ে এসো।” পরের দিন বিকেলে, বানি একটি নৌকা নিয়ে পুকুরের মাঝখানে গেল। নৌকাটি কাঠের তৈরি ছিল। এর একটি খোল ছিল। খোলটি নৌকাকে ভাসতে সাহায্য করেছিল। খোলটি একটি লম্বা কাঠামোর চারপাশে তৈরি হয়েছিল যাকে বলা হয় কিল। কিলটি নৌকাকে তার দিক ঠিক রাখতে সাহায্য করেছিল।

Bunny also heard about ships from Lobu. Lobu was Punny’s mother. A ship is large. It is made of iron, too. Earlier, ships moved on sails. Later, ships started moving on steam power. Now, ships move on diesel and electric power. As Bunny went to sleep that night, he dreamed about boats, steamers, ships and vessels.

বানি লবুর কাছ থেকে জাহাজ সম্পর্কেও শুনেছিল। লবু ছিল পুনির মা। একটি জাহাজ বড় হয়। এটিও লোহা দিয়ে তৈরি। আগে, জাহাজ পালের সাহায্যে চলত। পরে, জাহাজ বাষ্পীয় শক্তিতে চলতে শুরু করে। এখন, জাহাজ ডিজেল এবং বৈদ্যুতিক শক্তিতে চলে। সেই রাতে যখন বানি ঘুমাতে গেল, সে নৌকা, স্টিমার, জাহাজ এবং ভেসেল সম্পর্কে স্বপ্ন দেখল।
