1. Let’s Read
Jhinuk lives with her mother in Alipurduar. It is a pretty city surrounded by distant hills. Jhinuk’s father works in Kolkata. On some weekends, he comes to his home. During these visits, he tells her stories about Kolkata. Some of the stories amaze Jhinuk. Her father has told her of the Metro Rail in Kolkata. Jhinuk has been astonished to hear of trains that run underground.
ঝিনুক তার মায়ের সাথে আলিপুরদুয়ারে থাকে। এটি দূরবর্তী পাহাড় দ্বারা বেষ্টিত একটি সুন্দর শহর। ঝিনুকের বাবা কলকাতায় কাজ করেন। কিছু সপ্তাহান্তে, তিনি তার বাড়িতে আসেন। এই সফরের সময়, তিনি তাকে কলকাতা সম্পর্কে গল্প বলেন। কিছু গল্প ঝিনুককে অবাক করে দেয়। তার বাবা তাকে কলকাতার মেট্রো রেলের কথা বলেছেন। ঝিনুক মাটির নিচে চলা ট্রেনের কথা শুনে অবাক হয়েছে।
One weekend, Jhinuk was expecting her father to arrive. But on Friday evening, her mother told her, “Your father may not come tomorrow. He is busy with some urgent work.” Jhinuk felt very sad. She was missing her father very much. She had her dinner silently and went to sleep. Then she had a strange dream!
এক সপ্তাহান্তে, ঝিনুক তার বাবার আসার অপেক্ষা করছিল। কিন্তু শুক্রবার সন্ধ্যায়, তার মা তাকে বললেন, “তোমার বাবা হয়তো কাল আসবেন না। তিনি কিছু জরুরি কাজে ব্যস্ত।” ঝিনুক খুব দুঃখ পেল। সে তার বাবাকে খুব মিস করছিল। সে চুপচাপ রাতের খাবার খেয়ে ঘুমিয়ে পড়ল। তারপর সে একটি অদ্ভুত স্বপ্ন দেখল!
A beautiful fairy visited her in her dream. “I know you want to meet your father,” the fairy said. Jhinuk asked eagerly, “Will you take me to Kolkata, then?” The fairy smiled. She waved her glittering magic wand. And it was magic! In a moment Jhinuk found herself in a busy road. Around her she saw tall buildings, moving traffic and hurrying people. The loud blaring of horns startled her.
এক সুন্দরী পরী তার স্বপ্নে তাকে দেখতে এল। “আমি জানি তুমি তোমার বাবার সাথে দেখা করতে চাও,” পরীটি বলল। ঝিনুক আগ্রহের সাথে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “তাহলে কি তুমি আমাকে কলকাতায় নিয়ে যাবে?” পরীটি হাসল। সে তার চকচকে জাদুর কাঠি নাড়ল। আর এটা ছিল জাদু! এক মুহূর্তের মধ্যে ঝিনুক নিজেকে একটি ব্যস্ত রাস্তায় খুঁজে পেল। তার চারপাশে সে দেখল উঁচু ভবন, চলমান যানবাহন এবং তাড়াহুড়ো করা মানুষ। হর্নের তীব্র শব্দ তাকে চমকে দিল।
The fairy waved her magic wand again. At once, Jhinuk saw a river in front of her. Large ships were anchored in the river. “This is the Kolkata port”, the fairy said. The beautiful fairy smiled warmly. “Let me take you to the Eden Gardens now”. Jhinuk saw before her a vast green field. Sourav Ganguly had played here, she remembered.
পরীটি আবার তার জাদুর কাঠি নাড়ল। সঙ্গে সঙ্গে ঝিনুক তার সামনে একটি নদী দেখতে পেল। নদীতে বড় বড় জাহাজ নোঙর করা ছিল। “এটি কলকাতা বন্দর”, পরীটি বলল। সুন্দরী পরী উষ্ণভাবে হাসল। “চলো এবার তোমাকে ইডেন গার্ডেন্সে নিয়ে যাই”। ঝিনুক তার সামনে একটি বিশাল সবুজ মাঠ দেখতে পেল। সৌরভ গাঙ্গুলী এখানে খেলেছেন, তার মনে পড়ল।
“Can you show me the underground trains?” Jhinuk asked. “Why not? Let us go right now”, the fairy answered. They entered the Esplanade Metro station. The moving stairs took them underground. The train came into the station and they got up. Jhinuk was thrilled. “Where will you take me next?” she asked breathlessly. Jhinuk said, “I want to meet my father.” The fairy waved her magic wand again. Jhinuk saw a road lined with bookshops on either side. “This is College Street”, the fairy said. Jhinuk suddenly spotted her father in a bookshop. She was delighted. She ran towards him.
“তুমি কি আমাকে পাতাল রেল দেখাতে পারবে?” ঝিনুক জিজ্ঞাসা করল। “কেন নয়? চলো এখনই যাই”, পরীটি উত্তর দিল। তারা এসপ্ল্যানেড মেট্রো স্টেশনে প্রবেশ করল। চলন্ত সিঁড়ি তাদের পাতালে নিয়ে গেল। ট্রেনটি স্টেশনে এসে থামল এবং তারা উঠে পড়ল। ঝিনুক রোমাঞ্চিত হল। “এরপর আমাকে কোথায় নিয়ে যাবে?” সে হাঁপাতে হাঁপাতে জিজ্ঞাসা করল। ঝিনুক বলল, “আমি আমার বাবার সাথে দেখা করতে চাই।” পরীটি আবার তার জাদুর কাঠি নাড়ল। ঝিনুক দেখল দু’পাশে বইয়ের দোকানে ভরা একটি রাস্তা। “এটা কলেজ স্ট্রিট”, পরীটি বলল। ঝিনুক হঠাৎ একটি বইয়ের দোকানে তার বাবাকে দেখতে পেল। সে খুব আনন্দিত হল। সে তার দিকে দৌড়ে গেল।
“Wake up Jhinuk, wake up”, said a familiar voice. Jhinuk wakes up from her dream. It is morning. Her father stands before her, smiling. So he could manage to come home, after all.
“জেগে ওঠো ঝিনুক, জেগে ওঠো”, একটি পরিচিত কণ্ঠ বলল। ঝিনুক তার স্বপ্ন থেকে জেগে উঠল। সকাল হয়ে গেছে। তার বাবা তার সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে হাসছেন। তাহলে তিনি শেষ পর্যন্ত বাড়ি আসতে পেরেছেন।

2. What We Learn
The Power of Imagination and Dreams
Jhinuk was sad, but her dream took her on a wonderful journey. This teaches us that our imagination can take us to amazing places and bring us happiness, even when we feel down.
